Newstead abbey is a stunning historic place set in magnificent
gardens with several lakes and ponds, and was once home to the poet Lord Byron.

With a plethora of activities, the day’s highlight for me
was the RAF Rescue’s Sea King helicopter in action, displaying their amazing
skills by winching a willing volunteer from the ground into the helicopter whilst
still on the stretcher.
Close second was the Nottinghamshire Police Dogs
demonstration – watching such loyalty from the dogs for their handlers was very
moving and seeing the dogs give their all in protecting them against an assailant
branding a hand gun – truly amazing. I
had a lump in my throat during the entire demonstration.
In front of the famous Abbey was a collection of vintage
emergency vehicles and one particular organisation caught my eye – the ambulance
heritage society. Made up of retired
and serving ambulance personnel who volunteer their time to keep these
beautiful restored vehicles in the public eye.
Their tireless work enables these beautiful vehicles to be enjoyed and
appreciated for generations to come. If
you would like to know more about the society, please do so here, www.ambulanceheritagesociety.com
It was a lovely day to see how our emergency services work and to experience the pride and care they take in their roles and responsibilities - thank you for all you do, XXX
